A brief history of the rise of the ‘consumer’ story from the ‘subject’ story (20th century). A positive story with regards to freedom, liberation and democracy for those living in first world countries BUT at the expense of a healthy and functioning planet for all.
Did you know the top 1% of people in the world (most of us) are responsible for 50% of emissions and developing nations are feeling the brunt of our lifestyles?
From the baby boomers to generation X and millennials (mine) (circa 1981 to 1996), the increasing focus on individual success and wealth alongside the ‘world is your oyster’ rhetoric has continued to play out in our society in both positive and negative ways. There is an ever-increasing need for EVERYONE to step away from the consumer story (distraction from what’s really important) and into the ‘citizen’ story, in line with a renewed connection and understanding of how we interact with nature because we are nature.
We will discuss what that means with regards to your time, actions, knowledge, community and power. (We are all so much more than our job titles)
