Speaker: Emily Stevenson – Co-founder Beach Guardian, Microplastic Researcher and Senior Policy Intern with UK House of Lords
Emily Stevenson co-founded marine conservation NGO ‘Beach Guardian’ in 2017 with her father, Rob. Beach Guardian aims to empower communities to tackle plastic waste, and has now become an internationally known organisation. As well as managing Beach Guardian, Emily is also a PhD researcher at the University of Exeter and Plymouth Marine Laboratory, and her research investigates the role of microplastics (small plastic particles) in the spread of disease-causing organisms that cannot be treated with antibiotics. Emily joins us to discuss the inspiration behind Beach Guardian, what they do and why, with an emphasis on the interconnectivity between the wellbeing of people, planet and creatures.
